Where to Buy Alcohol in Dubai

If you’ve been in Dubai as long as we have you’ll probably have noticed the increasing number of alcohol stores across the emirate (or is it just that we have an unnatural fixation on knowing where the closest booze shop location is??). You may also have noticed more ways to buy alcohol, both legal and not so legal, we now even have a legal alcohol home delivery service – Legal Home Delivery.
African +Eastern and MMI are the only two companies where you can legally purchase alcohol in Dubai. Although a recent addition to the Dubai wine-shopping scene is ‘The Cellar Door’ that has opened its doors (pun intended) in the Depachika Food Hall, as part of Nakheel Mall. Though the shop stocks only wine, it’s definitely a handy one for residents of The Palm Jumeirah.
So, whether it’s a quick stop on your way home or stocking up for a weekend BBQ we have compiled the complete list of shops by area, so that you can find them when you need them most. Not all stores are created equal so we asked MMI and African + Eastern to let us know if there was anything special about a particular store, so some of them have a specialty which is highlighted. So without further delay, here they are!
Dubai Investments Park

MMI – Ibn Battuta Mall
Has monthly offers and a well-stocked Value Vault with bin-end products at additional savings. We’ve noticed that this shop also often has more bartending accessories than other locations.

Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT)

The shops in JLT offer a well-rounded, yet concise selection. It’s not easy to park close to the door so it’s best to shop here if you’re only picking up a few bottles at a time.

MMI – Armada JLT
The shops in JLT offer a well-rounded, yet concise selection. It’s not easy to park close to the door so it’s best to shop here if you’re only picking up a few bottles at a time.

The location is excellent, as it’s on the way from the parking lot to Waitrose, yet the selection can be somewhat limited compared to the other stores.

Palm Jumeirah
The Cellar Door – Palm Jumeirah
This is the only retail store that stocks both MMI and African + Eastern products, so you can get the best of both worlds. Alcohol prices on the Palm are higher across the board, however, we still find the prices here comparative to the prices on the mainland.

Emirates Living District
MMI – The Greens (Onyx)
The Onyx Tower 1, Ground Floor, Sheikh Zayed Road, The Greens. Weekdays 10am-9pm, Friday 2pm-9pm. Tel: (04) 379 4329.
SPECIALITY: There is convenient street and lot parking here. Also, they have a large, well-stocked Value Vault and a decent selection of fine wines as well.
African + Eastern – Springs Souk

SPECIALITY: This is our favourite African + Eastern store in the city as it has a wider selection of wines compared to their other stores, plus a large sales area and an area dedicated to fine wine.
Al Barsha
African + Eastern – Barsha Heights (TECOM)
This is a smaller shop with a good wine selection. Parking can be tricky here.

MMI – Mall of the Emirates

SPECIALITY: This newly renovated store is easily accessible if you park on the ground floor near to Carrefour/ground level food court entrance.
MMI – Al Thanya

SPECIALITY: This is our go-to shop. It’s the largest MMI store with an extensive selection of wines and spirits. It also had an extensive fine wine section and a decent-sized Value Vault. There is also an African + Eastern a two-minute walk away so if you need products from both suppliers this is the place to go.
Motor City

SPECIALITY: This isn’t the biggest store, but the selection is truly well-rounded. Plus, it in the path between Spinney’s parking and store, so if you’re doing a grocery shop it’s very accessible.
