Restaurant Review: Avatara

By January, 15 2025

We had the pleasure of dining at Avatara, the world’s first and only vegetarian Indian MICHELIN-starred restaurant, helmed by the talented Chef Rahul Rana.

This exquisite 18-course tasting menu is a feast for the senses, brimming with vibrant flavours, varied textures, aromatic delights, and visually stunning presentations featuring floral garnishes and mist-laden plates.

I dined with a vegan friend, and we were both delighted by the thoughtful inclusivity of the menu. I enjoyed the vegetarian dishes, while she indulged in the vegan menu, thrilled to experience such a high-caliber restaurant that could cater to her dietary preferences. The level of skill and complexity in each dish was remarkable. To elevate the experience further, the restaurant offers multiple beverage pairing options: vegan wine pairing, premium wine pairing, standard wine pairing, and even a non-alcoholic wine pairing. I opted for the premium wine pairing and enjoyed wines from Perrier-Jouet Champagne, Louis Latour Pouilly-Fuisse, Dog Point Pinot Noir, D’Arenberg Dead Arm Shiraz and Chateau D’Armjan Sauternes.

One of the standout features was the way the menu embraced the traditional flavour profiles of sweet, sour, salty, pungent, and bitter. These elements were beautifully showcased not only in the dishes but also in the cocktail pairings—both alcoholic and non-alcoholic—and even in the opening course of six creative bites.

Whether you’re vegetarian, vegan, or simply a lover of exceptional food, Avatara offers a truly unforgettable dining experience. For those who follow plant-based diets or have loved ones who do, this is an especially inclusive and extraordinary culinary journey worth sharing.
