Dubai Duty Free - Wines of the Month for August

By August, 02 2024

There are even MORE featured Wines of The Month this August at Dubai Duty Free!

Great news! Dubai Duty Free has expanded its Wine of the Month selection from two to three wines, now showcasing a rosé summer sipper in addition to a red and white. Here’s what’s available this month:

Chateau Roubine Cru Classé Premium from Côtes de Provence Rosé, France – 76 AED.

When you see “Cru” on a French wine label, it indicates a wine that meets the criteria for a special classification within a region. In Provence, the cru system celebrates the historical quality of the producer as part of the criteria, and Chateau Roubine boasts some serious history. It dates back to Roman times, and the Order of the Templars once owned it.

Chateau Roubine is one of only 17 other producers in Provence to have achieved Cru Classé recognition, putting them among the region’s top producers. The cherry on top is that this Wine is also organic.

This dry and refreshing rosé has notes of strawberry, cherry, peach, rhubarb, floral lavender, and chalky minerality. It’s perfect for summer patio sipping and pairing with lightly seasoned seafood.

St. Michael-Eppan Pinot Grigio, Alto Adige, Italy – 71 AED.

Pinot Grigio is known for being light, fresh, and easy to drink. The most revered Pinot Grigio in the world comes from northeast Italy’s Alto Adige region, where the air temperature is on the cool side, but the slopes are very sunny. This allows the grapes to ripen slowly, developing great flavour purity while retaining refreshing acidity.

St. Michael-Eppan is a cooperative that organizes grapes from many local, family-run grape-growing operations to create commercially viable wines. Trusted for generations, they influenced the way wine was made in region, guiding the growers to focus on smaller harvests for more flavourful grapes, thus better quality wine. This was a risk as it also meant that less wine would be made. Their pioneering efforts paid off in the long run, though, as they are now leading the pack for great quality pinot grigio, benefiting both the growers and wine consumers who enjoy the literal fruits of their labour.

If you drink Pinot Grigio, you know that it’s always light, dry, and refreshing. However, compared to your average bottle of ‘Grig,’ you can expect a crisper character with more clearly defined aromas of lemon, yellow and green apple, juicy pear, white blossom, and camomile.

Comtesse de Malet Roquefort, Bordeaux – 63 AED.

Under Bordeaux wine law, a relatively small selection of grape varieties is permitted in the wines. Producers make several wine tiers to ensure they serve a broader customer base. Yes, the wines are made from similar grape blends, but the styles are different. Some wines will be full-bodied, while others will be medium-bodied. Some might be heavily oaked, while others will be lightly oaked. These tiers of wines serve different occasions and also wine lovers with various budgets.

This Comtesse de Malet Roquefort is the easy-drinking offering crafted by the same company and winemakers behind the St. Emilion Premier Cru Classé-rated Château La Gaffelière, one of the top producers in the esteemed St. Emilion region. They also happen to be the oldest family winery in St. Emilion.

This wine is made to drink now, with no need for additional ageing. Ageing helps soften a wine, but this wine is already quite mellow with gentle and velvety tannins. It’s had aromas of blackberries, chocolate, cedar, potting soil and a little spice.

Remember that this affordable drop is made by the same winemakers behind some of the most sought-after Merlot-based wines in Bordeaux. The producer baking it has centuries of winemaking wisdom and access to state–of–the–art winemaking technology. Thanks to all of these factors, it has a fantastic pleasure-to-price ratio. Try it with summer-time meat dishes like cold cuts and quick barbecue bites like sausages, burgers and char-grilled chicken.

These three wines are available throughout August at Dubai Duty Free. You can grab yours from the Wine of the Month display as you pass through any Dubai airport or arrange it ahead of time for pick-up at the Click and Collect counter at Dubai Duty-Free.
